MCC Crowned Champions of the 2nd Edition of the Mbabane Premier League

The 2nd Edition of the Mbabane Premier League concluded in thrilling fashion with an exciting final match between MCC and Friends Club at the scenic Malkerns Country Club Oval. The highly anticipated encounter lived up to expectations, delivering competitive cricket and a fitting finale to a successful tournament.

After winning the toss, MCC opted to field first, a decision that proved effective on a challenging surface. Friends Club posted a respectable total of 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The backbone of their innings was a composed knock by Soban Ganiya, who top-scored with 50 runs off 50 balls. He was well supported by Tahir who contributed a valuable 37 runs off 27 deliveries to keep Friends Club competitive.

MCC’s bowling unit displayed discipline and control throughout the innings. Rohan Sandeep led the attack with impressive figures of 2 wickets for 19 runs in his 4 overs, while Wez Landman provided excellent support, claiming 2 wickets for 22 runs in his full quota.

In response, MCC showcased their batting depth and intent, chasing down the target comfortably in 16.3 overs with 6 wickets in hand. The chase was anchored by a dominant performance from Estean Sauerman who played a match-winning innings of 59 runs off just 28 balls. His aggressive and composed knock earned him the Man of the Match award and guided MCC to a well-deserved 6-wicket victory.

With this victory, MCC were crowned champions of the 2nd Edition of the Mbabane Premier League while Friends Club finished the tournament as deserving runners-up after an impressive campaign.

During the closing ceremony, MPL Tournament Organiser Safvan Patel expressed his sincere appreciation to all participating teams for their commitment, discipline and support which collectively contributed to the overall success of the tournament. Speaking on behalf of the Eswatini Cricket Association, Junaid Hansrod also extended gratitude to the tournament organiser, participating clubs and all stakeholders involved. He congratulated MCC on securing the championship title and applauded Friends Club for their commendable performance and runners-up finish.

The successful conclusion of the Mbabane Premier League once again highlighted the growing competitiveness and passion for cricket within Eswatini, setting a strong foundation for future domestic competitions.
