Cricket fans were treated to a spectacular showdown today at Malkerns Country Club as the much-anticipated final of the Cell World Premier League delivered excitement, skill and memorable moments. Friends Club emerged victorious to claim the championship title after defeating Mbabane Rising Stars in a gripping contest.
Having won the toss, Friends Club elected to bat first and posted a competitive total of 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by an impressive knock from Soban Ganiya, who scored a fluent 46 off 27 balls, supported well by Umair Qasim with a steady 34 off 26 balls. Their composed batting laid a strong foundation and ensured Friends Club had a defendable total on the board.
In pursuit of 168, Mbabane Rising Stars fought hard but fell short finishing on 148/6 in 20 overs, handing Friends Club a 19-run victory. Despite the loss, Hanif Patel delivered a remarkable counter-attacking innings, smashing a brilliant 50 off just 24 balls with clean and powerful hitting in an effort to revive his team from the lower order. His fighting spirit kept the contest alive until the closing stages.
The tournament also celebrated outstanding individual performances. Haris Rashid was awarded Best Batsman, while Asraf Patel walked away with both Best Bowler and the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Hujeifa Jangariya was recognised for his brilliance in the field earning the Best Fielder accolade.
Gracing the official closing ceremony of this prestigious competition were Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA) Board Members Mr. Junaid Hansrod (Treasurer) and Mr. Mandla Dlamini (Secretary General). Speaking on behalf of ECA, Mr. Hansrod expressed sincere appreciation to the tournament organiser, Yahya Patel, and his team for successfully delivering a highly competitive and entertaining league. He further extended gratitude to the tournament partners Wear Well Mbabane, Cell World and Right Parts for their valuable support.
Mr. Hansrod also thanked all participating teams, match officials and passionate supporters whose contributions made the Cell World Premier League a resounding success.
